Module 2 - The Role of the School Nurse

Inform young carers and school staff of what you can do to support them and raise awareness of potential risk factors.

Encourage young carers to seek your support by having an open and welcoming approach and protect their integrity by ensuring confidentiality, as appropriate.

Communicate with young carers so that they can access timely, age appropriate and evidence-informed information, using traditional methods such as posters, awareness stands and talks as well as social media and web-based approaches.

Promote the young carer’s health, wellbeing and safety, through every partnership and pathway and reduce health inequalities, by promoting healthy lifestyles and social cohesion.

Plan jointly and promote partnership working to identify and meet the young carer’s needs and become the focal point to co-ordinate the delivery of the input from different agencies to provide multi-disciplinary support.
