The sessions include:
Finding your way – This session helps carers discover what matters to them as a carer and lets them decide which other courses to do.
Caring and coping - This allows the carer to consider the emotions involved in looking after someone and ways they might cope with stress more effectively.
Caring and me - This course outlines how carers can stay fit and healthy and looks at planning their caring around their own health and wellbeing.
Caring day by day - This module covers the basics of looking after someone, from medication to emergencies at home.
Caring and communicating - Here the carer will find out the best ways to communicate with different people using real-life caring situations.
The National Caring with Confidence programme is an online, interactive learning programme which can be followed by a carer. There are workbooks, video clips and some areas run group sessions for those following the programme.
Until September 2010, local group sessions were available through the government-funded Caring with Confidence programme. Many organisations still provide the courses that were available through Caring with Confidence. A carer may be able to find a local organisation that runs group sessions.
