GPNs are encouraged to adopt a holistic approach to the care of individuals, for example:

Offer, provide and signpost up-to-date advice and information on health and wellbeing.

Listen to and support individuals, communicate concerns, refer (with consent) and deploy actions to achieve improvement.

Contribute to the development of community resources to support improvement, targeting provision of specific programmes, responsive to local need.

Definition of Public Health - “The science and art of promoting and protecting health, well-being, preventing ill-health and prolonging life through the organised efforts of society” (The UK’s Faculty of Public Health 2010).

Actions have been set out to maximise the nursing and midwifery contribution to improving health and wellbeing at individual, community and population levels.
