Thea Stein became Chief Executive of the Nuffield Trust in September 2023.
She was previously Chief Executive of Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust, Carers Trust, Yorkshire Forward and North East Leeds Primary Care Trust. Beginning her career as a clinical psychologist in homelessness and addiction services, she brings deep insight into the wider determinants of health, including housing, environment and employment.
A compassionate and evidence-driven leader, Thea champions community healthcare and nursing, promoting integration and the vital role of local services. At the Nuffield Trust she has commissioned key work on the nursing workforce, especially district nursing, and is a national advocate for neighbourhood teams.
Thea became a Fellow of the QICN in 2025.
