Professor Nicola Ranger is a nursing leader and Chief Executive and General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing.

Formerly Chief Nurse at several NHS Trusts, she led King’s College Hospital through the COVID-19 pandemic, championing staff wellbeing and challenging unsafe practices such as corridor care. Since qualifying in 1989, she has worked across the UK and internationally, including in Pakistan during conflict, and in major US hospitals. With experience in intensive care, trauma and HIV/AIDS care, she has held senior roles at UCLH and Surrey and Sussex Healthcare. A passionate advocate for safe staffing and fair conditions, she promotes unity across the profession.

Nicola became a Fellow of the QICN in 2025.
