Professor Joanne Atkinson is a leading academic in palliative and end-of-life care and a registered nurse for over 40 years.
With a background in oncology and as a Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist, she has advanced education and research in community-based palliative care.
Joanne has contributed to national standards and curricula through NHS England and QICN, and advised the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Hospice and Palliative Care. Her research spans cancer, long-term conditions, and care homes. She co-founded My New Hair with the late Trevor Sorbie MBE, transforming it into an international charity supporting people with medical hair loss through education and advocacy.
Joanne became a QICN Fellow in 2025.
