Matthew Peel is a leading figure in custody healthcare, serving as a national advisor, expert witness, author, and Queen’s Nurse since 2022.
A clinical leader and role model, he oversees the induction, training, and supervision of custody healthcare professionals and has shaped key guidelines, policies, and patient group directions. He has extensive experience assessing individuals detained under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act and co-edited the first book for healthcare professionals in this field. A former NHS England Clinical Nurse Fellow, he contributed to the QICN standards on criminal justice nursing and serves on the UK Association of Forensic Nurses and Paramedics.
Matthew became a Fellow of the QICN in 2025.
