QN applications will open on 20th March 2025.

To apply for the title, you must first request your Unique Reference Number (URN) between 20th – 26th March 2025, and then complete the process by 16th April 2025.

General criteria to apply for the Queen’s Nurse title:

  • Application for the Queen’s Nurse title is open to all nurses working in a community and primary care setting.
  • Applicants must hold a current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (the applicant’s NMC record and revalidation must be up to date).
  • Applicants must have worked for a minimum of five consecutive years in a community or primary care setting. (Internationally recruited nurses working in the community need to have worked a minimum of 3 years and 6 months in the community in the UK, in addition to having worked for 18 months in a community setting prior to coming to the UK.)
  • Applicants must be currently working in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, supporting people to receive the best possible care in their own homes or other community-based settings.
  • Applicants must not be under investigation by the NMC or employing organisation.
  • Applicants must have the support of their current direct line manager/ or senior colleague at the same seniority as the current line manager (who has been managing or has known them for a minimum of 6 months).
  • Applicants must have the support of a professional / clinical lead or equivalent who can provide a character reference; this referee must have been qualified for a minimum 5 years and who has known and worked with the applicant for a minimum of six months.
  • Applicants must have support from two additional contributors, depending on their role.

 

How to apply for the Queen’s Nurse Title

2. Request your Unique Reference Number (URN) available from 20th March till 11.59 pm on 26th March 2025.  Please note that we are not issuing any URNs after this date. If you miss this deadline, please consider applying next year.

3. Complete the Queen’s Nurse Application Form. The unique link will be sent to you in an email after you complete the URN form. See the guidance for more details.

4. Ask your Direct Line Manager to support your application. They need to complete an online form using the unique link sent to you in the URN confirmation email. See the guidance for more details.

5. Ask your Professional/Clinical Lead to support your application.  They need to complete an online form using the unique link sent to you in the URN confirmation email. See the guidance for more details.

6. Ask two of your patients/colleagues/students (depending on your role) to support your application. Full instructions and links will be sent to you in the URN confirmation email. See the guidance for more details.

7. Deadline: all the completed forms, including contributors’ forms, must be completed by 5 pm on 16th April 2025.

Technical issues

Some organisations’ web security restrictions prevent full access to our website, which means that your application/form might not be submitted properly.
