Community Nurses Gather in London for International Research Conference
15 April 2025
London, 15-17 April 2025
The Conference of the International Collaboration for Community Health Nursing Research (ICCHNR), in partnership with the Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing (QICN) at City St George’s, University of London, will open on 15th April 2025.
The theme of the Conference concerns the impact that community nursing research has in helping the world meet the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Community nursing research has huge potential in helping to deliver these goals.
Delegates will be welcomed by Dr Barbara Stilwell, President of ICCHNR and Conference Chair; Dr Crystal Oldman CBE, Chief Executive, The QICN; Professor Debra Salmon, Vice President Strategic Projects and Professor of Community Health at City St George’s, University of London; and Clare Cable, Chief Executive, The Burdett Trust for Nursing.
It is anticipated that one of the outcomes of the Conference will be new collaborations between nurses in the UK and colleagues from across the world. Many NHS Trusts already have collaborations. The Conference seeks to share knowledge among practitioners in the UK but also share and learn from practitioners in other countries.
Keynote speeches on Day 1 will be made by:
- Professor Ruth Endacott, Director of Nursing & Midwifery, National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)
- Dr Crystal Oldman CBE, Chief Executive of the QICN.
On Day 3, delegates will hear keynote speeches from:
- Duncan Burton, Chief Nursing Officer for England
- Howard Catton, Chief Executive of the International Council of Nurses (ICN).
The QICN is delighted to have partnered with ICCHNR to deliver this fabulous opportunity for nurse researchers to come together in London from over 20 different countries, to share their work and to learn from each other.
There could not be a more important time to have community nurses leading research focussed on the 17 sustainable development goals; we know our communities, and we know what can and needs to be done to improve health and wellbeing and reduce inequalities in the communities we serve. The community is where most health care takes place, where people experience their lives and where interventions can be made, underpinned by the findings of community nurse-led research.
I am excited by who I will meet and what I will learn at the conference and in particular, the opportunity to share our common goals across the global nursing community and build lasting connections with international colleagues.
Dr Crystal Oldman CBE, Chief Executive of the QICNICCHNR, the QICN and City St George’s, University of London, particularly welcome the international Scholars funded by the Burdett Trust for Nursing, undertaking community nursing research in the developing world.

ICCHNR (ICCHNR.org) was initiated by Dr Lisbeth Hockey in 1993. It has been holding international conferences since 1997 building on the first community nursing research conference held in Alberta, Canada in 1993. Community nurse researchers and students are attending the London conference in 2025 both in person and online from approximately 20 countries.
The Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing (QICN), founded in 1887, supports community nurses in all specialisms in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It also works internationally, including through the International Council of Nurses and over the past year it has been working with nurses in Gambia, discussing education and regulation of the nursing profession and what can be learned and adapted from different systems.
City St George’s, University of London is the university of business, practice and the professions, based across three campuses. To find out more visit: https://www.citystgeorges.ac.uk/
