Community Nursing charity, The Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing (QICN), is delighted to celebrate the completion of Rebecca “Becks” Daniels BEM’s #12in12 fundraising challenge, marking the end of an extraordinary year of perseverance to supporting community nurses across the UK.

Becks, the QICN’s Community Children’s Nursing Project Lead and a Queen’s Nurse, set herself the ambitious goal of completing 12 challenges in 12 months to raise funds for the Support for Nurses programme – a vital service offering financial and wellbeing support for nurses. Becks encouraged friends, family and QICN staff to join her on the challenges, raising nearly £3,000 in total.

A Year of Challenges: Becks’ #12in12

Across 2025, Becks completed the following challenges:

  • January: London Winter Walk – Half Marathon (25 January)
  • February: 10,000 steps a day or 30 minutes of exercise daily
  • March: 3,100 squats – 100 per day
  • April: London Landmarks Half Marathon (6 April) and the TCS London Marathon completed locally “YourWay” (27 April)
  • May: Nurses’ Day Walk/Run in Finsbury Park (10 May) and the Hackney Half Marathon (18 May)
  • June: 1km Royal Docks Open Water Swim (6 June)
  • July: Daily Mile wellbeing challenge – walking one mile every day (31 miles total)
  • August: London Summer Walk (23 August)
  • September: Serpentine 1-mile Swim (20 September)
  • October: Royal Parks Half Marathon (12 October)
  • November: Daily plank challenge – 30 planks, increasing from 30 seconds to 2 minutes, rotating plank types
  • December: Team Evie Virtual Santa 5km Dash (12 December) and the Olympic Park 5km Santa Run (10 December), completed in full festive attire

The idea was to push myself while also encouraging people to recognise the incredible strength and compassion within our community nursing workforce,” Becks said. “Every step, stroke and plank was for colleagues who give so much to others. I was so grateful to be joined by friends and colleagues of the QICN – thank you to everyone who supported me!

“Becks’ year-long fundraising journey, month by month”

On behalf of everyone at the QICN, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks and warmest congratulations to Becks. Completing a challenge of this scale -  and doing so with such energy, generosity and resilience - is extraordinary. Her commitment throughout the year has been inspiring, and the funds she has raised will make a real and lasting difference to nurses who need support. We are so proud of her achievement and deeply grateful for her unwavering dedication to the community nursing profession.

Steph Lawrence MBE, Chief Executive of the QICN

The funds raised will directly support QICN’s Support for Nurses programme, helping provide practical, financial and emotional assistance to nurses working in the community and primary care.
