Strategic Plan 2026-30
The QICN’s new five-year strategy sets out a clear agenda to strengthen its role as the independent voice for excellence in community nursing.
As health and care services across the UK increasingly adopt neighbourhood-based models, our strategy aligns with the “three shifts” of England’s 10-year health plan—moving from hospital to community, analogue to digital, and sickness to prevention—while reflecting similar priorities in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. It ensures that community nurses remain central to the development of high-quality, accessible care.
Strategic Priorities
Over the next five years, the QICN will focus on six key areas:
-
Policy Influence – Engaging with government departments, national health bodies, and leading think-tanks to shape neighbourhood-based care.
-
Data and Evidence – Strengthening research partnerships to provide robust intelligence that informs policy and practice.
-
Innovation and Quality Improvement – Testing and evaluating new approaches to care to support continuous improvement.
-
Leadership Development – Supporting Queen’s Nurses and Fellows to influence health policy, including through the All-Party Parliamentary Group for nursing.
-
Wellbeing and Support – Prioritising the personal and professional needs of community nurses.
-
Financial Sustainability – Securing long-term impact through diverse funding, membership engagement, and bespoke educational programmes.
