The Impact of Queen’s Nurses
Maya’s story
Maya is a bright, spirited child whose care journey has taken her and her family through both joyful moments and profound challenges. This example shows how Queen’s Nurse Sharon Lee, with 47 years of dedicated service, and the wider team worked together to give Maya one special day at home with her family. It happened because everyone pulled together around Maya’s needs, demonstrating the collaboration, compassion, and patient-centred focus that define Queen’s Nurses and community healthcare. Dellanie, Maya’s mum and a nurse herself, saw this as a perfect demonstration of a Queen’s Nurse upholding her values, and wanted to share not only the impact on her daughter, but also how services like the ambulance team helped bring it to life.
Read Dellanie’s blog, “When a Queen’s Nurse Walks Into Cubicle 9 Lion Ward’.

Family testimony:
We are beyond grateful for everything Sharon has done over the years, and for the continued care and unwavering support she gives to Maya and our family. She truly is so special, and the difference she makes goes far beyond clinical care — she brings comfort, reassurance and hope during many of our hardest days.
I am very happy to give consent for Maya’s story and photographs to be shared more widely by QICN. If sharing our experience helps highlight the extraordinary impact of Queen’s Nurses and supports other families, then that means a great deal to us.
