The Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing (QICN) has launched a new faculty: the Community Children’s Nurse Faculty, led by Queen’s Nurse and Community Children’s Matron, Rebecca Daniels.

This landmark initiative has been established to strengthen the voice, visibility, and professional development of community children’s nurses, recognising their critical role in delivering high-quality, family-centred care to children and young people in community settings across the UK.

The launch event taking place at Appleby Health Centre, part of East London Foundation Trust, brought together community children’s nurses, senior leaders, and key stakeholders to celebrate the expertise, leadership, and impact of this specialist workforce including Ellen Duke (Deputy Director of Children and Young People’s Nursing at NHS England), Rebekah Overend (Professional Lead for Children and Young People at the Royal College of Nursing), and Mark Millar (Lecturer at City and St Georges University).

Community children’s nurses play a vital role in supporting children, young people, and families closer to home, often working across complex health, social care, and educational systems. The new Faculty formally recognises their advanced practice, leadership, and influence, providing a national platform for professional development, advocacy, and innovation.

Rebecca Daniels, Community Children’s Nurse Faculty Lead, commented,

It has been an incredible honour and blessing to chair the CCN network and lead on the CCN Standards for SPQ programmes within the QICN over recent years. I am delighted this will all be brought together within the CCN Faculty, along with the annual CCN award. To have a place for CCNs on a national platform of excellence really helps to continue to raise the profile of the incredibly complex work delivered by passionate children's nurses across the UK every day. As a CCN for 20 years, this is one of my proudest moments to be able to launch the Faculty in East London alongside my fellow CCN Queen’s Nurses and showcase the work of our wonderful CCN Staff.

Steph Lawrence MBE, Chief Executive of The QICN, commented,

Community children’s nurses are central to delivering compassionate, joined-up care for children and families in their own homes and communities. The launch of the Community Children’s Nurse Faculty is an important step in recognising their expertise, amplifying their voice, and ensuring their experience helps shape policy, education, and practice at a national level.

The Community Children’s Nurse Faculty will act as a hub for education, leadership, and collaboration, supporting excellence in practice, workforce wellbeing, and the development of future leaders in community children’s nursing.

The Faculty reinforces The QICN’s commitment to empowering nurses across all areas of community practice, raising professional standards, sharing best practice, and strengthening the impact of community nursing for populations across the UK.
